5 wonderful hikes to do in the South of France

The south of France is full of natural beauty and breathtaking scenery. Between sea and land the Languedoc-Roussillon offers many hikes to do.

1- Gorges d'Héric 📍Mons-La-Trivalle

The Gorges of Héric are located in the middle of the massif of Caroux. It’s one of the hikes which impressed me the most by the diversity of the landscapes!

This hike extends over 5 kilometers to reach the summit and takes about 3 hours for the round trip (but count a little more to take some breaks to admire the stunning area).

The location combines gorgeous waterfalls and soothing stony mountains! It also shelters a diversified fauna.

2- Gouffre de l’œil doux 📍Fleury d’Aude

The “Gouffre de l’Œil Doux” is located in the massif de la Clape. This mysterious scenery is so soothing and majestic.

From the top of this cliff, the view of the chasm is breathtaking with its magnificent emerald green water and flamboyant greenery. You can even glimpse the sea beyond!

The flora is varied, and the place remains wild and preserved. Besides, the site is not developed and swimming is not allowed. It takes about 30 minutes to walk around this exceptional area.

3- Cascade de la vis 📍Saint-Laurent-le-Minier

This amazing waterfall is located near Montpellier.

It’s an outstanding place to relax and enjoy the fresh air of nature. There’s also a hiking trail along the river of the Vis.

It’s one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited. The turquoise water, rocks, trees, and waterfalls make the view absolutely breathtaking.

I was totally surprised by this wonderful landscape worthy of a postcard!

4- Lac du Salagou 📍Celles

This splendid lake with red reflections marked by the “ruffes” is located in the Hérault.

Upon arriving at the lake, the wonderment is overwhelming! This beautiful lake is surrounded by a wide range of colors with green trees, red rocks, and blue water.

The hiking trail extends over 10 kilometers with a difference in altitude of more than 268 meters and takes about 3 hours. At each step, the landscape is even more soothing and invigorating. It’s undoubtedly one of the most beautiful lakes in the south of France!

5- Cirque de Mourèze 📍Mourèze

Located near the lake of Salagou, the landscape offered by the Cirque of Mourèze is outstanding and full of beauty with a multitude of white rocks shaped strangely and an absolute calm.

At an altitude of several hundreds of meters, the view is breathtaking.

It takes about 3 hours for this lovely and quiet hike where nature is predominant.

I have many other nice places to show you!
