10 must-haves for a successful hike

Planning to go hiking? Awesome though!

I’ve prepared a list of 10 things to take on a hike to be perfectly prepared and fully enjoy without any misadventure.

  • Backpack

First of all, it’s necessary to have a good backpack adapted to outdoor activities. Prefer a waterproof bag to prevent damage in case of rain.

For my hikes, I always carry a nice, simple, and comfortable backpack with compartments to put my camera on and hang my tripod.

  • Clothing

To fully appreciate the hike, clothing must be comfortable and adapted to the season (check the weather forecast the day before to be prepared). Hiking is also about walking, so having comfy, lightweight shoes with good support is very important.

In the mountains where the sun can be really intense, nothing better than a hat and glasses to protect yourself!

  • Sunscreen

In addition to suitable clothing, good sun cream for the body and face is also essential to be protected from sunburn and the dangers of sunlight. Also, think about UV-protective lipsticks.

PS, in case of sunburn, try to use a natural aloe vera gel.

  • Water bottle

Hiking is an outdoor physical activity that requires some effort. Remember to be well hydrated to be in good shape during the tour.

There are bottles for all styles and different materials, Tritan, stainless steel, aluminum… Choose the gourd that suits you best.

  • Some snacks

Drinking water is vital, but eating allows us to prevent tiredness and to get enough energy! However, fast sugars (sweets, sodas, cakes…) should be avoided otherwise there will be an insulin spike and a large meal will be difficult to digest.

What better than a little picnic with healthy food in a beautiful setting.

  • Headlamp

To enjoy the beautiful golden hours in a beautiful landscape you have to wake up before dawn or stay after sunset. Unfortunately, there’s a risk of doing the walk in the dark or with low light.

The headlamp is perfectly adapted to make the journey in safety and with completely undisturbed hands.

  • Map & compass

Before going on a hike, information about the place and the signposting is necessary, although a map and a compass are also useful to keep the right track and to not get lost.

There are also many mobile apps that allow you to map out your own itinerary or to take a well-defined trail leading to a beautiful viewpoint.

  • Camera & phone

Even if you don’t stay focused on your phone while hiking, you need to bring it along and it can be handy for GPS use.

While hiking, each view is more pretty than the other! A camera will catch these magnificent landscapes and keep some wonderful memories with you.

  • Hygiene items

A hygiene kit can be very useful to put hydroalcoholic gel, tissues, moisturizing creams… and anything else you deem necessary during your hike!

  • First-aid kit

To be well prepared for any situation that you might encounter while hiking, you must have a first aid kit with you in order to carry out the main emergency care.

However, the weight of the kit must be limited to reduce clutter and to have the necessary items such as bandages, water purification tablets, sterile compresses…

This is a non-exhaustive list, the most important is to take with you whatever you consider useful while remaining minimalist because the weight of the bag shouldn’t be a constraint. It must be lightweight and practical.

I would love to hear from you about your essentials for hiking. Feel free to share them in the comments section!

And above all, enjoy your hike! 🥾

I have been browsing online more than 2 hours today, yet I never found any interesting article
like yours. It is pretty worth enough for me.
In my opinion, if all site owners and bloggers made good content as you
did, the net will be much more useful than ever before.
